[V8] thermostats ad nauseum

Most major engine failures I have seen in my driving life were caused by a
failed thermostat, and a driver who failed to recognize the seriousnous of the
problem.

I also think you are on to something - I had a problem a few years ago where I
went through several thermostats before I got one that worked. This was on the
Explorer, and in my case, they were open too much - the engine warmed up too
slow and caused fuel high consumption.
