[V8] What were they thinking?

V8 #2 (The Bismarck) is almost a memory to me. I sent her off to the
wrench a while ago...about a month, if I recall correctly. Originally,
it was to have a look at the transmission. At 135K miles, it was
starting to clunk a bit here and there. They've only got 1 Audi guy at
the shop, and he finally got to working on some of the other things this
week. I told the shop to go ahead and take care of the power steering
while they had it up on the rack. I wasn't sure what the problem was,
except that the pump was definitely shot.

Today, the shop calls and reminds me of the existence of V8 #2, and
talks to me about the power steering. So, take a guess:

Did the previous owner:
A) Install the wrong rack?
B) Create some sort of bastardized bracket involving using a brake pad
as a shim?
C) Use motor oil instead of power steering fluid?
D) None of the above, because any of those would be just damn stupid?
E) All of the above, because the previous owner was just damn stupid?

If you guessed E, you are correct.

Hmm, I'm a couple of quarts low on motor oil. Perhaps Aunt Jemima will
work in here. While I'm at it...lighter fluid sort of smells like
gasoline. And if it doesn't fit, you must shim it!
