[V8] Another brake question . . . I know, I know. . .

The V8 is the closest relative to the 200q20v, but shares many parts with
the 100, the 200 (both 20v and 10v), and even the 5000; these are all
considered the Type 44 body style.

The '91 200q20v and the 1990-1991 V8 were the only US cars to have UFOs
brakes, which are interchangeable between the two models. So if this Big
Brake setup fits one, there should be no reason why it shouldn't fit the
other.

There is some pretty good info on the http://bira.org/ website with regards
to big brake upgrades. This home-made setup FS on the marketplace sounds
very similar to the 'System 2 for UFO-equipped Vehicles' BIRA.org setup,
with even larger rotors (330mm vs. 320mm).

Your 17x7 ET35 wheels should work just fine, but may require a small spacer
if the MB caliper rubs on your wheel (not sure what offset the CLK430
runs...) Also, make sure your hub-centric hubs are still making contact
with your hub-centric rims.

The 7" wide rim is a bit wimpy for a 4,000lb, 240hp AWD beast. Not to
mention the MAX tire width you will be able to run is 225mm and this would
be pushing it. On a 7" wide rim vs. the stock 7.5" rim, the tire will be
inset from the fender lip by 6mm, which may not be too noticeable.

I ran 17x7.5 S4 Snowflake rims and a 225mm wide tire for a while, but wanted
a wider stance. I am much happier with the esthetics of the 17x8 Speedlines
and 235mm tires and will probably try a 255mm wide tire on my next set. I
even kicked my current setup out with a bit with a 12mm spacer for a little
extra bling :-)

when we took a road trip down the Oregon Coast in January.

I have learned a bunch from listening to the Q&A on this forum. Chances are
if you have a question, others are wondering the same thing. Ask away Dave,
and chances are someone has the answer. :-)

Cheers,

- Jeremy

Kneale/Ingo -
Sorry if I was coming off a bit 'thin-skinned' this morning.
My only excuse is that I hadn't finished my first cup of coffee.

My knowledge of Audis in general is limited - but growing
thanks to the members here. So what is common
knowledge for most with respect to similarities/differences
of certain models, as well as the interchangability
of parts, is a struggle for me.

Ingo, should I take your reply to mean that the
bracket machined to modify the Merceds caliper to
fit the 200q20v would not be any different for my V8?

I've had a set of 17s with the 35et in the garage
for a while, however, they are 7-in. wide, not
7.5-in which seems to be much more common.
Would anyone think that could pose a problem?

Thanks as always.
