I don't know about the MA emissions test, but last year I had problems in passing the NJ test and following Keith Tackett's advice I replaced the plugs, warmed the car up, and then took the car out for a very spirited ride on the nearby highway. A lot of high rev runs to blow whatever crud was in the cylinders and exhaust. Right after that I went to the inspection station, luckily I got in without having to wait a half hour sitting at idle, and passed the test.
So far as a small leak in the resonator it might not be a leak. That resonator has an outer shell that can rust or get perforated but it doesn't mean that the inner shell, where the guts are, is perforated. That was the situation with my middle resonator prior to my getting a cat back exhaust put on. If you do have to get it replaced it's fairly cheap to do. You can use any number of high flow resonators from any of the performance catalogs, such as Summit, to replace it. Any local shop should be able to do it.
