[V8] Off-topic: A6 recommendation?

Well, this isn't entirely off-topic, as the reason this comes up is a direct result of my girlfriend driving V8 #1 while her '95 Chrysler Concorde was in the shop (her exact words were, "Wow! Your car is FUN to drive!"). I couldn't find an A6 specific list (other than the v6-12v list, which looks pretty low traffic), so I figured I'd ask here.

The girlfriend doesn't want a V8Q, even though driving mine convinced her that a new (used) Audi is the way to go. She wants an A6 Avant, 2000 or newer.

I don't know that platform at all, though I seem to remember some grumblings about the 2.7T A6. Any folks here have recommendations of what to look for in buying one, typical quirks/expenses and so on?
