The best thing to do would be ask very specific questions at this point,
"did you plug the 1551 (or whatever the new scanner is) into the airbag
plug at."..etc. The manual isn't exactly made for easy browsing, so I'm
guessing the tech didn't find what he needed, assuming he even looked.
Audi is also of little use, since the "zone guy" who is the area
troubleshooter, was probably in Jr. High when the V8Q's were flagships.
I've seen first hand what happens when a tech gets stuck and calls AofA
on an older car, the tech usually ends up calling around to other dealers
and mechanics in the area with Audi experience if he wants to resolve the
problem. My phone has rung a couple of times when my dealer tech friend
got a V8Q in for service, it was simple stuff IF you have first hand
experience with the V8Q. Not really fair to generalize as "Monkey Lad
Syndrome" though, my friend is an ace Porsche tech going on 30 years,
has maybe worked on 5 V8Q's in all that time (Audi techs at his
dealership won't touch them with a ten foot pole) so it doesn't make him
any less of a tech if he doesn't have specific knowledge or experience
when it comes to cars like our beloved V8Q's.

There are two types of tragedies in life. One is not getting what you
want, the other is getting it.
