[V8] Audi V8 - we build excitment! (Woes of V8 ownership)

Carter,

Hmm. Methinks it's a OXS sensor problem (or related wiring). The resistance values tell the computer to dump more fuel (had it with the 5-speed), but if the wiring has been cut or somehow compromised, the correct values will never be obtained. Instead, you'll be washing the cylinder bores with fuel, fumigating the cars behind you, and emptying your wallet. I'd disconnect the signal (black) wire from the OXS and see what happens. Then I'd check fro compromised wiring and repair/replace oxs sensor. If that doesn't do it, it could well be the temp sensor below the pass side distributor (but that should give a code).

Ah Ingo, how right you are.

So, my latest (3000 mile) problem:

I'm driving along, I smell raw, unburned or partially burned fuel, immediately check engine light comes on, and milage drops to ~14 mpg at best. Driving is uneffected, from what I can tell. This comes and goes, but in the last 3000, it's mostly been there.

  Any thoughts?

My guess: Engine thinks it is running lean (knock sensor malfunctioning?) and dumps fuel into the motor.

This coincided with the changeover to Ethonol "summer gas", interestingly, and at the same time my cousin's S4 started running rather poorly (perhaps unrelated, but it wouldn't surprise me if the gas was to blame).

At 3+ a pop for a gallon, it would be nice to be back around 21mpg, but not if it's a 1,000$ sensor.
