Jason.. the process I would use and you're almost there is: Firing
Order: 1 5 4 8 6 3 7 2
Cylinder Alignment is:
8 7 6 5 Front Driver
4 3 2 1 Front Passenger
Remove all the Plugs and start with Cylinder #1
Spin the motor to #1 TDC (note mark on balancer) Test: Charge to 120 PSI
and time the rate at which it loses pressure and see where it stops and
record it in a log. Do it again, and this time listen to the valve cover
(Rings), Air Filter Area (Remove housing). (Intake Valves), and Tailpipe
(Exhaust Valves). You may need to repeat that a few times per cylinder
til you hear the leak.
Spin the motor 360 Deg (align timing marks), move to the next firing
cylinder and re-test as above. Repeat for each cylinder. The reason for
this is to ensure that each cylinder is at TDC when doing the test, even
1 deg, can give you poor results.

When you're done you can calculate the loss per cylinder and will have
data to support a valve job, or ring work. And from there you can decide
what is the best course of action to take. Your results: Anything less
than 14% is a "pass" (17PSI Loss); Anything greater than 15% (18PSI) is
a "marginal" and anything greater than 20% (24PSI) is a "Fail". These
are just my opinions and take them as such. Of course the longer the
time to leak the better.
HTH.. & Good Luck.
Scott
