[V8] MPG - long overdue update

To answer some questions,  
 1. Replaced Fuel Filter
 2. Don't have Vag-com - I would but my wife would kill me right now if I
spend $150 on this car right now.  Beside the o2 code is the only one
showing - as far as I can tell the code splits two ways, Rich and lean -
all the code tells you is that the sensor is reading too rich or too lean
to be in range of the sensor. - vag-com would tell me rich or lean, but
I'm pretty sure it is rich because of the gas mileage.
 3. I don't have an actual leak down tester - I just have a hose, guage,
and ball valve - can I still do this test?  When I tried it before, at TDC
that cylinder, the pressure drops to nothing from 80psi really fast - like
2 seconds fast - maby it wasnt' exactly TDC, but I had the valve cover
off, so I think it had released the valves - atleast the cams looked like
they had cleared.
