[V8] MPG - long overdue update

Doing a quick google for leak down testers, I found some for under $100.
Also some pretty good plans to make one for nearly free if you have the
stuff laying around.
You can also try used tool stores and even tool
rental stores.
The problem I had with this is that my
compressor is too small and too loud to be useful.
You have to be
able to hear air leaks - so the compressor has to have good air volume and
be located far away. This is why I had a real mechanic do it for me.
One more thing to keep in mind if you have an automatic
transmission is that when you apply air pressure to a piston at TDC, it
will want to go to BDC very quickly. You are going to need a way to lock
the crank. Not too hard with a manual tranny, but you will probably have
to rig up a wrench on the front pulley bolt.
