[V8] power drop outs

Sorry if this is a dupe post the original has not hit the list after 2
days.
I wish I had read Steve's/Tony's post before I implanted the spliced Bosch
13913. That said all is back to normal. I can't account for all the
symptoms coming from the 02, (especially as my MPG for the last 200 miles
of the trip was not bad) but they are all now gone. When the snow melts I
will go back in and try a 4 wire in hopes of replicating Tonys huge 25+
MPG! (also noticed a severely rusty engine to body ground strap that will
be done as well) I miscalculated the life of my 02. I thought it had been
more but only 4,000 miles! (and it still was not all that easy to get it
out!) I bought it new off of a lister and could not see any mfgr markings,
bit it did have the correct 3 wire harness but had the swiss cheese type of
probe vs the Bosch slits. Interestingly, once out it Ohmed OK and there
was no continuity between the power leads and the signal leads that DID
exist when the 02 was installed and ignition on. I didn't bother to heat it
and check, just happy to have the car mobil again. thx all.
Mike

Based on your description Mike, I suspect that the heater in the OXS you
have has failed in a way so that it is now connected to either the
ground or signal line of the OXS. There is some chance that a bad
ground from the crossover pipe to the engine block may be or may be
contributing your problem, but I think that's a long shot.

BTW, if you wanted to create a pseudo 4-wire set up with the stock
sender you can run a dedicated ground wire from the ground lug on the
block and either a ring lug large enough to go around the OXS threads or
to a self tapping screw into the crossover assembly. I'm thinking you
could drill a hole in the structure of the crossover that is not part of
the exhaust piping. If I were to do this, I'd probably also use a star
washer between the ring lug and the self tapping screw to ensure a good
electrical connection.
