I remember driving Graydon Stuckey's EFI 5ktq 10 years ago.  He  mounted 
wider wheels/tires up front (z car maybe) than rear but maintaining the  diameter 
with different tires.  It handled really well, but looked a bit  goofy.  IIRC, 
the DTM v8's did the same thing

Hmm.  Actually, what  I THINK he meant to say was that to counter  
understeer, the European  tuners would mount wide front wheels and  
tires up front than out  back.  So then you could have let's say a  
17x9 up front and a  17x7 or 17x8 in the back with appropriate tires  
that would be the same  diameter.   Then you could adjust the offset  
to  appropriately fill out the wheel wells.
