In re the AC question, my theory is that the system only adds heat
when it's trying to cool. If you set the CC temp to ambient, or when
the interior fan is barely running, I don't think the system is really
trying to do much. You can take this a step further by actually
making it pump some heat out... in A/C mode, those electric fans will
still be running and you'll be taking heat out of the engine in
another manner as well.
