[V8] Heat Soaking V8

I am going to guess that you have a clogged radiator or bad t-stat. You
should not be running that hot this time of year.
As for the
expanding pressure, all cars heat up after you shut them down. There is a
lot of latent heat that the cooling system is no longer carrying off. The
coolant tank is designed to account for this expansion (so do not over
fill it!). If it does over pressure, the (pressure) cap will let the
excess out - it just spills out on top of the coolant tank.

To
cool a really hot engine before shutdown, I would turn off all excess
loads - including the AC (not saying your method does not work Ed - but
the AC adds a heat load to the radiator) and run the motor at about 1500
RPM for a few minutes. Just fast enough to really get the engine driven
fan moving some air but if your radiator is bad, you may not accomplish
much cooling.

I'm not sure how to cool it off before turning it off,
