Anything is possible. That sounds like it would *work* from strictly a
geometry standpoint. I tend to get a bit nervous in our litigeous society to
reweld steering arms and redesign (possible failure) lower ball joint
attachments. Al, I think all this is simpler, pick a target and chase it with mods,
not pick a mod and chase the fix. A lot of customers have have had me do the
latter over the years.
A given that the car is lowered means that a lot of surgery is required,
that may not yield as good a solution as targetting the *purpose* of lowered. I
got into this whole discussion because I saw front track being discussed as
a possible solution to increase type 44 handling, great idea IMO. When I see
all that slop in the front of a type 44, and read with it, suggestions of
ball joint modifications and steering arm modifications, I think there are
better ways to get better handling. Is what you propose *possible*? Sure. I
just ask the more obvious question: Is it necessary?
I just don't see lowering a type for *performance* as a given. I don't see
myself ever modifying a steering arm or lowering a ball joint as solutions to
the problem of lowered bump steer issues... Actually, I don't see myself
even riding in one that has, thank you....

Scott ,Jack and all. Say one wants to still lower the car for what ever
reason (looks, low center of gravity, already spent the money on the parts,
or whatever). And let say, one acknowledges the drastic affect this will
have on suspension components and handling, and would like to work around
that to find asolution. Can we have a discussion on this? After thinking
about this a little, and rereading previous posts on this matter, I now see
your point with the sway bar and control arm issue. I would like to submit
an idea to you and the list, and would appreciate your, as well as Jacks
feedback. The solution to me seems to be relatively simple. For how ever
much you lower the car, you drop the lower ball joint, and tie rod arm. This
would effectively keep the suspension relative to each other(i.e not change
the geometry) this would also take care of the swabar issue as well.
Dropping the steering arm would be as simple as grinding away the old weld
on the strut tube, and sliding it down, then re weld. Not sure if lowering
the ball joint mounting area is possible, but it makes the most seance to
me. Maybe weld some kind of bracket or something. Do you agree with this in
theory? I know I haven't addressed the front axle slope, but this is what I
come up with so far.Al
