[V8] Glovebox Removal? (Ignition switch & heater core R&R)

Can someone please give me a quick run down on how you get the blasted glove
box out on a V8? Actually, what I'm trying to do is to replace the ignition
switch module, and I'm stuck at the step where it has you remove the
glovebox to remove the Titanium stiffening bar ... if someone knows how to
get at the switch without this work I'd appreciate hearing that as well. I
can see where the switch attaches to the steering column ... it seems like
with the right tools I should be able to get the switch out without having
to take everything apart. Has anyone had success with getting the ignition
module out without taking everything apart?
I'm also taking this opportunity to replace the heater core (and blower
motor) ... I've done this on a couple 5000s but never a V8. I know on the
5000 that you need to detach the footwell ducts, but the instructions in the
V8 service manual don't tell you to do this.
When I posted earlier it was suggested that a standard T44 ignition switch
module might work on a 5-speed V8 ... well, I now know that this is not the
case ... and I had to wait for one to be FedEx'ed from Germany. $150 for
the privilege ... but at least they didn't charge me extra for the priority
shipping.
TIA!
