Yes (in my best Meatloaf voice) STOP right there, before you go any
further!

All you need to do is remove the dashpad, cluster and kick panel. (IIRC) 
It's pretty easy once you see it, a mirror helps.  Are you sure it's just
the ignition switch, and not the lock itself?  A broken tab on the back
of the ignition lock (where it goes into the electric switch) seems to be
a common failure mode.

If you do need to change the mechanical part, do the collar cutting,
several listers have verified that it does work on the car.
