[V8] The Ol' Starter Problem

I know you have to give sacrifice to the Audi Gods for this, and I have,
but They are slow in response.

I can get a 10mm driver on extension into the upper starter bolt. I can
get all sorts of extensions and u-joints and ratchets and breaker bars
onto the extension. But I can't seem to find any sort of way to break
that damn thing loose.

Going in from the top, on an AT car, appears impossible. I'm
contemplating going in through the wheel well.

I know some of you have changed a starter on an AT 3.6. How did you do
it? What tools did you end up using?

The best luck I had was a 10mm driver, one inch extension, three inch
extension, u-joint, then about a 2-3ft extension with a breaker bar, but
the driver wobbled too much and if I strip this bolt out, I'm going to
hate life. Beyond that, it was 10mm driver with a six inch extension
hooked onto my ratchet. That was very stable, but I couldn't get enough
torque in such a small space.

I don't doing it if it'll help, but is it advised to take off the
H-pipe? That seems like it'd give me more rotational room.
