... looks like I'm the hydrant this time ...
As you and the others have experienced, I too am a victim of the lock
cylinder tab breaking ... so, in effect I did not need the steering lock
assembly ... just the lock cylinder. Interestingly, I also see that the
switch module's housing has broken ... don't know if this precipitated the
failure of the tab or vice versa. Here again, V8 5-speed only part ... I'm
waiting for it to arrive from Omaha (the column lock came from Deutschland).
I'm still working on getting the heater box out ... I know all the stuff
from inside the cabin is free ... perhaps I'll listen this time and pull the
hood! :-) I'm having problems finding something to grip on the heater box,
thinking I'll run some rope underneath and use that to lift.
I'm also using this opportunity to take care of a few other items ...
I fixed the accelerator pedal to reattach the cover ... used a couple small
flat head wood screws for pivots ... seems to work great. Given how easy it
was to remove the pedal for the operation I wish I'd done this a LONG time
ago.
I figured out where the return spring on the recirc door is supposed to go
... it was actually still intact on #344! As suspected, the attachment is
to a bar up near the vacuum motor. Once that is fixed the recirc should
work as intended.
... opened up the Instrument Cluster to DeoxIt the connectors ... didn't see
any bad solder joints. It certainly looks like the car's got the original
Instrument Cluster and I was the first to open it up.
I'm also working to integrate that power outlet extension I leave between
the console and the driver's seat into the electrical system. I think I've
got a solution I like figured out. I'm going to add a cigarette lighter
socket inside the console ... this means if I decide to use the expansion
unit in another vehicle it will be able to plug right in. What I'm going to
do is to add a relay so that the extension outlets will only be powered when
the car is on. I'll probably tap into the circuit that keeps the windows on
until the front doors are opened for control of the relay. I've got a nice,
sealed in-line blade fuse holder for protection. I'll run the power for the
outlet extension into the back of the carpeted side cover of the console.
I'm also removing the factory 6-disc changer for the Delta deck to be
replaced with the 10-disc Gamma cointrolled unit. The PO hacked in a noise
filter ... clearly someone who did not understand grounding ... ;-) ... I'll
clean that up a bit and leave it in place.

I guess I've still got that issue with cylinder #3 ... hopefully its just a
spark plug wire ... boy, if I can get that one along with all the stuff I'm
doing now this car's going to be pretty well sorted out ... oops, I almost
forgot the cruise control switch on the column ... better get one of those
on order too.
