I've had varying experiences as well. On the 4000Q, I have no complaints, as
well as the Ranger, and all the other VW/Audi products I've personally
converted. However, in a Taurus Wagon that we converted, it couldn't even
keep the interior at 75, and that was at about 90 outside temps. So, i guess
perhav=ps the AC systems are overbuilt in some cars, and not so much in
others.
FWIW, I think I've noticed R134A getting better over the years since it's
introduction. Perhaps this is just in my mind, though. Hell, I've convinced
myself of plenty of other things over the years ;-)
