[V8] '93 V8 ECU connection

This probably has been discussed before.  I have '93 V8 in excellent  
condition (165,000 miles).  I am using VAG Mobile (formerly ProDiag) to  access ECU 
codes.  Until yesterday I was able to pull codes from the  ECU.  But something 
has happened, as to where the Program is not able to  communicate with the ECU 
at any baud rate.  I am trying to pull the codes  because suddenly the check 
engine light came on and the car is running  poorly.  Symptoms are sporadic, 
poor acceleration, idle instability.   This is not the usual check engine light 
I sporadically get which seem to  be related to the OXS, but goes away after 
acceleration.  Does  anyone have any explanation or solution on how to get to 
the codes and/or  overall solution.
