[V8] MPG - oh no!!! - New engine feeler

... I can't speak to a 4.2 swap, but a 3.6 to 3.6 is not too difficult ... the whole nose of the car comes off without much effort, and the wiring looms to the engine attach to Kostal connectors right inside the passenger compartment above the pedal box ... If I don't need to swap engine looms and have a person to help muscle the motors around and all the tools I am sure I could easily do the swap in a weekend.

My plan is to give the new motor a good once over on the bench before even starting the swap ... of course new water pump and timing belt ... probably oil pump and fan bearings ... it is also a great time to replace the rubber seals on the metal lines that carry coolant over the engine and across the back.

Another issue that might impact a 3.6 to 4.2 swap would be if the state you live in has smog testing you should make sure you understand the rules well before starting the swap. Since the 4.2 is coming from a newer model you're probably OK, but be advised it can change the test requirements ...
