[V8] V8 Euros.. are they worth it?

I'm about to show my ignorance in this department with this question: Just 
how necessary is this plastic piece to the operation of the headlight? After 
having disassembled Euro's myself, I have to question the functionality of 
this piece. Perhaps it's just for cosmetic appeal? As for refinishing, a 
company which chromes plastic should be able to do it, yes?
