[V8] Range Rover & 4x4's

I can say from personal experience that the Range Rover we previously owned was absolutely the worst vehicle that we ever owned from a reliability stand point! It spent a lot of time at the shop - which my mechanic told me wasn't unusual. In fact, he was a former service manager for the local Land Rover dealer for years before venturing out on his own. The funny thing is he specialized in Land Rover and Lexus - he said the Land Rovers were always in for a wide array of problems, while the Lexus customers where normally only there for routine/scheduled maintenance...his advice to me was to sell the Range Rover and buy a Lexus (even though it would cost him lost money from repairs!) :)
I owned a 98 Range Rover 4.0 SE from 45k miles up to 98k miles. My general thoughts were that it was a fun car (when it ran), but the overall build quality was low as was the materials used on the interior. As a point of reference, the leather on the drivers seat started looking worn and shabby at around 55k miles - in comparison to my 90 V8q with over 200k miles whose driver seat still looks like new. The Range Rover also leaked oil like crazy. The dealer told me it was virtually impossible to ever get it to stop as new leaks just seem to happen. Perhaps the new model is better from a reliability stand point, but I'll never know as that was my first and last Range Rover ever!
Hope that helps.
