[V8] 1990 V8 Woes

Zay..

Not really, there is a weep hole in the water pump for the bearing, and what (I surmise) happening, is that when you shut the engine down, it's still getting hot, and building pressure. Enough pressure to blow past that seal out the weep hole, and form your puddle.

It would start happening as soon as the cars gets shut off, but, the coolant could be pooling at the bottom of the timing cover. And (maybe due to sludge buildup), once it reaches a certain level.. leaks out.. which would explain why it takes a few hours for you to see.

The leak is at the front of the motor and if it is not, it is finding its way to the front right to the middle. What ticks me off is that when I took it to the mechanic it would not leak at all...grrr. But the residue the leak left on the oil pan seems to point to the water pump. I just find it weird that it would leak so much after the car runs and cools down after a few hours...

Zay,

Half a Gallon? Sheesh! My first thoughts would be cracked connector
fitting under the Expansion Tank and second would be the two O-rings
connecting the metal coolant pipes to the cylinder heads (underneath
the the air cleaner intake). Unless the coolant leak is at the front
of the motor -- which would point to water pump. In any case, find
out WHERE the leak is coming from FIRST.
