[V8] Failed strut insert

Did you use the supplied Bilstein boot? 
I have had HD's and Sports on my V8 (honestly like the Boges better  around 
town, but Bilsteins are way better at speed, or on turn-in, transient  
maneuvers) and on about 5 or six different VWs, and never had water or hydro  locked 
shocks while using the boots- which need to be zip tied in place to  make sure 
snow/rain.
I did have water get in on my GTI without boots though.....didn't cause  it 
to be seized, but I did turn it upside down and pumped out and it continued  to 
work for the next 5+ years and then I had them rebuilt and revalved for my  
race car.
