[V8] 93 v8 climate control, a/c turns itself on

Are you talking about the compressor cycling on and off to maintain temp?

I'm talking about pressing AUTO, setting the temp to 69, then pressing
the snowflake to turn that off, and adjusting the fan to just below
half on the scale and then having the snowflake turn back on.

The word "auto" still displays above the temp display so maybe it's
sensing something that it thinks requires the compressor to be
running.

I've reviewed the owner's manual twice and it says nothing about this.
