[V8] Starter Question

I'd install a rebuilt starter. Bosch rebuilds are excellent. It sounds
like you are going to have the work done so, iIf you tell the mechanic to just
install a solenoid, it's your nickel if you were wrong - you'll have to pay
for the whole job over again. I'd estimate 1 hour for the labor and about $125
for the part. If a ready rebuilt isn't available, your starter can be
removed and sent to a local rebuilder. As for the diagnostic: Either your
solenoid isn't advancing the starter pinion gear far enough or the overrunning
clutch (in the pinion gear assy) is failing. A remote third possibility is a worn
flywheel ring gear (and oh boy we don't want to go there).
