[V8] Cams -- again

I was about *that* close to buying a 944 turbo yesterday, but then
figured, hell, that can (and should) wait... I want my V8 to be where I
want it first -- including something around or a tad north of 300HP, but
without turbos and all the engine management hoopla that goes along with
them... So now that it's somewhat not freezing outside, I'd better get
moving forward... I'm thinking top and bottom end rebuild, and upgrade
the cams.

I have the feeling that a "group buy" approach for this won't work.
It's rare for anyone to be on this page at the same time as someone else
-- and since this isn't the Radical Civic list, this isn't even on most
people's collective radar screen...

My main concern is that some space-age polymer finish isn't there to be
stripped from the lobes, leading to a kablooie situation. Otherwise:

Do we know the current cam specs, as well as an idea of what we'd have
them reshaped to?

And what's the opportunity for big valves? Intake, exhaust, both,
neither?

Yes, swapping to an ABZ or whatever would be great too, but until
there's credible feedback from someone who's done such a swap, I don't
want to be the guinea pig (let alone go the whole summer with my car's
guts spilled all over the garage floor).
