[V8] Ignition Switch Frustration

I know your pain. When I bought the V8 I have now the lock had been
replaced. I wanted a matching set of locks so I bought them off of Ron W.
When I pulled the lock out of the collum I compared the two electrical
parts of the switch. The used one was cracked so I put the newer one into
the old lock. (BTW - not Rons fault he had no way of knowing and I'm not
complaining) Two weeks later the car wouldn't start on occasion, you would
have to wiggle the key to get it to work and sometimes it wouldn't work at
all. Long story short is that the new part that was on the car when I
bought it was crap - once I took them both apart I found that the new one
had much smaller contacts - that were burned and generally built worse
then the used one. I ended up putting the used one in, crack and all,
because if you look close enough you will find that even though the
plastic is cracked, the metal casing on the lock itself will trap it from
breaking any further. I have had it on the car for 2 months now without a
hitch. On a side noted, you can, and I have removed the lower knee
bolster, and get a small #1 strait bit (just the bit itself and you have
to grind it to fit)up in the key switch to remove the electrical part,
only if you have previously removed the red glue that covers the head of
the screw, which it seems you have already done. It is exxxttrrreeeeeamly
difficult to do but it is doable, and faster. I did it once at lunch at
work - had it out and in in less than 20min, no lie.
Good luck,
Jason
