Thanks for the help with the heating.
Meanwhile, with the car off, I'm freezing my butt working on the laptop
hooked to the V8. I've managed to get the shareware (4.09 or something)
to talk to the ECM. It's kinda neat. No more blinking LEDs! I haven't
had luck with the TCM (I chouldn't have to change plug-ins, right?) nor
the insturment cluster.
Anyone fiddled around with this? The VAGCOM guys, rightfully so, are
more concerned with 95+ vehicles and not our ancient technology.
The factory manual lists 10 different information values: engine temp,
engine load, engine speed, idle air range, idle speed curve?, idle speed
adjustment, iddle spee control, O2S control, O2S adaptation, and
ignition timing. Any ideas on how to access these? I think it'd be
neat to monitor this crap live. VAGCOM offers "single readings" through
"blocks." I got some values through them, 30+, but I haven't sat down
to figure out what they mean. The battery in the laptop ist kaput so I
have to run an extension cord from the house yadda yadda yadda. Maybe
when it's warmer out. ;)
