[V8] The reason it won't run is . . .

Fuel pump is seized.

No fuel = no start (duh).

Removed fuel pump, applied 12v to terminals, got loud hum but no whirr. 
Screwdriver blade gently inserted in bottom could not turn the rollers 
or roller disc - this one is locked up tight.

Requires personal origami to get this in and out - fold self into 
unusual positions halfway in and out of trunk, and of course, every time 
I picked up a wrench, it started to rain, as soon as it stopped, I could 
undo another clamp or fastener and it started again.

Also noticed that the plastic pump holder/basket was not locked into the 
bottom of the tank. Manual says you need some special tool to rotate the 
pump housing in the tank before withdrawing it - not so here, just 
lifted it right out. Is that going to be a problem on reassembly or do I 
need to figure out how to lock the pump into the bottom of the tank - 
can I just drop it back in? (Ran fine for all the time I've had the car, 
over 4 years . . . )

Now the question - Bosch # 0 580 464 991, Audi # 441 906 091A

Who's got these at the best price? Prefer Bosch/Germany, not made by 
slave labor in tents in parts unknown.

Updated part number?

Note that this is NOT the pump with the aluminum spigot on the bottom 
(although it does feed from the bottom), and is the large 60mm diameter 
pump, not the skinny Pierburg.

Build date of the car is 6/89.

Any tricks, special instructions, new and exciting things to know about 
putting this back together?
