[V8] Sad day

... sorry to hear about the problem George ... perhaps we should all take a
minute to check this on all our cars ... When you say the hose on the
pressure regulator, you are talking about the braided return line, correct?
The regular rubber hose that goes to the manifold shouldn't have anything
but air in it ...

One thing you may want to consider is replacing the engine wiring loom
wholesale ... it is fairly easy to pull an intact loom from the Kostal
connectors ... You probably know this already, but it all bundles down
pretty tightly at the back of the engine near the firewall, but when I did
the engine swap on #2 it wasn't too difficult to do. A new loom guarantees
that you don't have any issues with melted wires and short circuits ...

I guess I'm a bit puzzled about why you can't read codes ... even California
cars can light the light at the diagnostic connectors ...

Subject: [V8] Sad day

This morning I had a fire in the engine compartment
of my 1990 V8. The hose on the pressure regulator
split and sprayed gas on the exhaust manifold.
Luckily I was close to my house and was able to put
out the fire with an extingusher that I had in my garage, even
before the paint on the hood was damaged.
I quickly cleaned up the engine and I repaired the hose.
I had to cut open most of the wiring harnesses on top of the
engine and replace some of the wires. The plug wires were burnt
 as well.
I repaired what I could, put on the old set of plug wires
and tried to start it. I have no spark and the idiot lights don't
go on when I turn the key.All fuses are OK, anyone know what
else could effect these lights? It's a California car(now on long island)
and I can't pull the codes without the check engine light.
The 3 wires to the right side distributor were completely
burnt along with thr connector, I'm not sure which wire goes where.
I think the black/brown wire goes towards the passenger side, the
black/purple wire goes in the middle and the black wire goes toward
the drivers side.Does anyone know if this is right? Anyone have a
spare connector for sale?
I also have a small burnt spot on the motronic box on top of
the intake monifold, but I'm not sure if this would effect starting.
The wires going to the temp sensor were burnt also,I had a spare
connector and I have repaired it.If the sensor were damaged I think
it would still start, but throw out a code, right? The connectors for
the 2 knock sensors are also burnt, but seem to still make connection.
I would appreciate any advice anyone has as I'm not ready
to let this car go.
    Thanks,George
