When I had "others" working on my cars I usually had no problem bringging in
new parts from other suppliers... but I think the mechs would balk @
replacing worn parts with parts that aren't too far off what you got now
Roger.

It's actually much more serious than that. Any mechanic who has much of an
investment in his business will likely refuse to replace worn out parts with
worn out parts. If something really ugly happened due to brake failure,
then the mechanic could find himself primarily liable for injury and
property damage. In addition to that, here in this state if a mechanic
knowingly uses inferior parts to repair a vehicle and the item is
inspectable under Maine motor vehicle statutes, there are additional state
penalties that can be applied.

John is very good at "working with me", and I wouldn't ask him to do
something that is blatantly not in his best interest.

& as far as a BBK remidy for the UFO's.... I think $1,600 is WAY to much!
Christ you could source a set of G60 housings, Rs2 Caliper brackets, 323x30
rotors, & new 993tt or 928GTS calipers, & lines, pads, & fluid for nearer
$1,200.... & still have $$$ left over to have all us V8 listers come over
your place in Maine & get that lobster dinner you've talked about ;-)

What I had thought some years ago was to get my life sorted out so that I
could devote more time and energy.oh, yeah: money, too.to my car fun. I
was thinking about a BIRA solution assuming that I had a V8 or 200 20V with
G60's.

As far as the lobster is concerned, I have long thought about having a "Tour
of Acadia" or something, that would feature things like lobster and other
things. Once upon a time I actually tried to plan one of these with a car
club featuring a certain kind of German car whose owners think they are
imbued with a kind of regal deification once they have bought one.in the
end, it was all talk and no one really wanted to show up.

But it might happen again, particularly if gas prices remain down in the
weeds.
