[V8] May I have the white courtesy phone, please?

Actually, I am very familiar with the V8 Avant. I drooled over the pictures
of the construction. And you are right, I did once say that the ultimate
car would be a V8 Avant.

But that was before I owned The Black Mariah.

You see, The Black Mariah had a chip. But something else, and I really
don't know what. The guy who bought The Black Mariah sounded like he knew a
lot about turbo's, and he said The Black Mariah's turbo was minus a plug or
a hose connection of some sort and that enabled the turbo to spool
waaaaaaaaaay up. Funny my mechanic never saw that and the car lived with
him for quite a while when we initially sorted the old thing.

Anyway, no V8 necessary: The Black Mariah was waaay strong for an old girl,
and I learned yet again, that the five cylinder turbo motor can bring magics
that the V8 only hints at for the same dollars.

Now, the hunt is still on. Right now I am in the early negotiations for a
V8...I don't know where that might go, but it's an interesting car, and
sometime in the next month, I will either make an offer or let it go to
rest. It has a few more miles than I would like, but we'll see.

Then there are suddenly, some nice looking/sounding '91 Avants around. And
I would like to have someone explain to me why it is that these cars that
might be suitable as Rogercars, appear in bunches or not at all.

Anyway, I suspect the low mileage '91 Avant #1 is gone already, and I know
of two others that are a bit intriguing, but ASTMMIMHO.

And I have been officially released from W5SA Syndrome. We would just take
her C5 Avant whenever we went anywhere.

Oh, what do all of those things mean? Well, the ASTMMIMHO means "asking too
much money in my humble opinion", which translates to mean I wouldn't even
make an offer unless I was willing to go to physically see the car myself,
and the car doesn't sound THAT good.

The second....W5SA...means "wife's 5 speed avoidance". And I have been
driving cars with a clutch since before most of you guys were kicking at
your mother while she tried to put a new diaper on you. And there is
nothing, nothing, nothing better than a sweet running '91 20 Valve Avant for
all around performance and general driving utility.

It's just that my wife is so severely clutch challenged that she is
uncomfortable riding in one with me as the only available driver. My father
has had two heart attacks, so there IS family history of that. (Of course,
my father's two heart attacks came last November when he was 94 years old,
and he has recovered rather nicely to date, for someone who is two months
away from the 95th birthday.)

Meanwhile, The Old Gray Mare is running remarkably well. Aside from little
electrical ground gremlins in the instrument cluster, there are no
complaints. She does much better in the snow that I expected any
non-quattro to do, but she continues to NOT be two things that I really
want: A v8, and a 20V Avant. Spring is coming, and that's when the
proliferation of such noble dollar sink holes appear....
