And how much before taxes does Bastian have to earn to cover 20 grand in
fuel?  

I was talking to some folks from Holland several years ago, they said they
were paying 80% income tax, so in this case they'd have to earn $100k just
to cover $20k of fuel...

Wow! A 200 mile daily commute across three countries! Now that's really
something I wouldn't have expected. Is that each way or round trip? I'm
guessing the latter. How long (timewise) is your commute?  $1,600 monthly
fuel costs would be unthinkable here. That's $19,200 a year!
