[V8] Undercar Overhaul

I think you should have marked the orientation of the propeller shaft flanges at each end so they could go back together with the same "balanced" alignment. Who knows whether they actually balanced the shafts at the factory?

Don't all the propeller shaft CVs have a little play in them? I've never heard of one coming apart in use.

The brakeline fixture on the transverse beam is supposed to keep the rears working equally, while the one in front of the driver wheelwell is supposed to balance front/rear pressure to account for loading of the car. It's supposed to deflect with the suspension as it lowers under load and supply greater rear braking pressure as needed. Mine are all frozen too.

I don't buy dealer brake lines. I go to FLAPS and get approximately correct lengths and bend 'em up to fit. Local FLAPS have brake lines with metric threaded flare nuts. I usually cut the lines at that transverse fixture so that I can fit a long socket over the nut. Works better than using an open-end or flare wrench.

All the parking brake adjustment is at the lever end, but if you have sufficient corrosion of the brake lines to need replacing, you probably also have corroded parking brake levers in the calipers. See http://20v.org/brakere.htm

Driveshaft:

- I recall reading some specific notice about reinstalling, besides
"reverse of removal" -- does this ring a bell? I will be replacing the
bolts, but that's due to the air chisel removal method required by a
few.

-- There seems to be a bit of play in the CV joint at the rear of the
drive shaft. Has anyone had one explode? It looks like a c-clip holds
it on to the shaft end - is it that easy to replace? Worth the bother?
Driveline slop while driving is only apparent if you're not used to the
car, and I doubt it's from that joint anyway...

Rear Brakes:

-- There's a hard brake line that runs from a T-junction at the
left/rear wheel, inward along the axle, and into what looks like some
kind of accumulator near the diff. The line is crusty and needs
replaced. To greatly ease describing it to a vendor, can anyone send
me either (a) the illustration that identifies this line, or (b) a part
number?

-- What the heck is that accumulator thing? Is it a maintenance item?
Part number?

--Also inside the left rear wheel, there's a 2" x 2" box that has brake
lines going in/out, and has a 3" long lever on top, the end of which is
attached to a thin spring that hangs down and hooks to a fixed point (a
bracket for the e-brake cable, IIRC). This box looks to be some
metering device that keeps the pressure equalized side-to-side, but it's
entirely mechanical. What is this thing, and does the fact that the
lever appears full-on seized have any consequence? Any intel on this
would be useful.

-- Is there any e-brake adjustment needed at the calipers?

Thanks for reading this far. Please let me know if you have any
insight. I need to get the parts ordered ASAP!

Best regards,

Dave C.
