I wrote to V8Q list (back in 1999):
"Only other place the V8Q exhibited "normal" problems was in the Mts of
West Virginia (on our way to D.C.) After a very spirited run through the
mountains (hey, they do have those emergency truck catchers just in case,
or so I tried to convince my passengers) when we stopped at a rest area,
smoke was billowing from under the hood. Burning oil smell, coming from
under the air cleaner..."
I found nothing wrong when I got home, breather hoses etc. all intact.
While no where near the corrosion resistant bath your undercarriage got,
the smoke was billowing. Never did figure out WTF happened, pulled the
transmission long after this (to change the flywheel) and didn't touch
the rear seal, as it was dry, dizzy seals were/are dry. Never happened
again.
