Bob,

A couple of things come to mind:

1.Vacuum leak
2. Sticky throttle linkage

I've had both. IIRC leak in mine was the hose that goes back to the carbon
canister (plastic hard line by the passenger side firewall).

To lube the linkage properly (I like to use a teaspoon of ATF), remove the
bottom of the airbox and lube the rear linkage. For the front, remove the
idle stabilizer valve and then the front throttle body assembly entirely.
with it removed you can check to see if there is any sticking in the
throttle body (doubt it). Then there's a pivot and bearing for the front
linkage where it attaches to the throttle body. I'm guessing that part has
dried up and that'swhere you may well find resistance (happened with my
Pearl '91 5 speed. Lube it up, work the linkage a bunch of times, align and
reassemble.

HTH
