Audi has a proprietary galvanization process, this is what keeps the rust
at bay, not wax.
If you get some galvanization spray (sold at electrical supply houses,
for coating exterior conduit) and spray the underside, especially the
lines, it'll give them years of extra service. I had a rot bucket Karma
Ghia convertible many moons ago, the only parts that didn't fall off the
car before I gave it away were the ones I had coated with the spray. The
fuel lines in my ole '84 5KS were springing leaks regularly and the
accumulator looked like a ball of rust, sprayed them and they went half a
decade and off into the sunset without the rot progressing.
