[V8] No Start

... if you're getting 4444 then the reference and speed sensors are being
seen. Usually a no start will give you a flywheel sensor code ... you are
leaving the ignition on after cranking the engine and then reading codes,
right?

The only clue I've got is your comment about the odd cranking sound ... it
has never happened to me, but there have been reports of something ... I
don't know if it has ever been validated ... perhaps the hydraulic lifers
are getting pressurized to the point where the valves are being held open
continuously. Perhaps someone here who has actually experienced this will
comment ... I hear that it goes away as mysteriously as it arrives. Perhaps
you will crank your car in the morning and all will be back to normal ...

Did you happen to pull a spark plug or two to check to see if the engine is
flooded or the plug is fouled? Perhaps your fuel pressure regulator has
failed in a way that is providing too much or too little fuel to the engine.
Do you smell raw gas in the exhaust? You might want to run the output
diagnostics to see if you can hear the injectors clicking open and closed.
Info on how this is done is in the manual ... I think it's at Scott Mockry's
page too ...

Good luck!

  Hi guys,
Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving,I did until today.
The last time I used the 90V8 was Thursday morning. I went to
use it late this afternoon and now it won't start.
I tried to pull the codes and all I get is 4444. I have spark
at cylinders 1and 5 (the only ones I checked). I also have
gas, when I take off the return line at the presure regulator
and crank the engine I have gas.
The engine sounds different when I crank it,almost like
the timing belt is broken. I took off the left timing cover and
the belt is ok. I even cranked it until the timing marks that I
put on the belt (when I changed it 6k ago) lined up.
The car has 160k on it and I'm thinking that maybe the
sensor that counts the flywheel teeth is bad.Neither of
the 2 sensors have been changed. Is there a way to check it?
    Anybody have any ideas?

 Thanks, George
