[V8] reversing lights

I'm trying to get my V8 ready for state safety inspection.
I've been told the reversing lights do not work. This is
a V8 converted from automatic to 5-speed manual. There is
a gear-indicator black-box under the hood that is wire-tied
out of the way and which is wired to permanently show
"neutral" so the car will run. I've been told there is an
existing reverse switch on the manual transmission. The
questions of the day is -- how do I hook it up to the
reversing lights? And since I'm new at this, location,
location, location -- what connects to what, and where do
I find the connections?
