Well, the requirements are pretty stringent, in that the car needs to have been registered for at least the past year. It may be cheap to do so in certain states, but Michigan certainly isn't one of them -- as annual registration costs are based on value of the car when new. 

The only depreciation is what money you had in your wallet. Let's see: $214 for the '93 with 206k on the clock.
