[V8] flash of death

I saw it on TV a few nights ago about the problem with the VW & Audis …… sorry for getting off track … I forgot the engine was still running but the transmission wasn't engaged .
hmmm where to start :-)
here is what I can tell you , when I first had the problem I posted on this great list of V8er . I had all the responses you would expect with a problem like this, its the Engine Reference sensor , bad coils , etc . So what do you do ?
Taking the car to a shop in Ottawa and finding someone to diagnose the problem is a futile experiences. I engaged Bruce at German Auto Connections as he is one of the best in North America for Mechanical and Electrical knowledge on the V8's . Bruce was at a loss to what my problem was, he also was surprised to hear that it was the Speedo Transmitter ( S.T.) in the transmission was causing the engine to switch off .
So this is what I can tell you . A Faulty S. T. on my car caused the engine to DIE .
How do I know this , because I unplugged* the S.T. and the problem hasn't come back in 6 weeks of driving .
How did I figure out the problem, by reading the manual ( transmission manual ) a few times … boy that can put you to sleep !
There are two types of S.T. one has two prongs and the other one has three. The one I took out of the my Audi was a three prong one. The spare one I took out of my brand new Automatic transmission was two pronged. When I put the two pronged one into my transmission it doubled the KHP on the Speedo ….. When I hit 220 KPH (140 MPH ) really only 110 KPH , What did the engine do ? it started to shut on and off …. Do these cars have a Rev or KPH/MPH limiter ? If so do you think now that there might be a link to engine management ( ECU ) ?
As an trained aircraft engineer ( mechanical ) the only time my car has gone to the shop is twice , once for tires and once for a exhaust mod .
Do all my own work ... I know it took me two years to figure it out , but I did .
*I'm still waiting for the correct one to come in … so the Speedo is not working as the S.T. is missing .
