[V8] black interiors...now morphed a tad

Well, I just got back from the wrench's. The verdict on Michele's 100CS
Avant is the crank position sensor is bad. Strange. It was replaced in
November 2007 and less than twenty thousand miles ago. The supplier can't
offer an explanation, and can't even identify the manufacturer "because it
was too long ago". My mechanic will not use aftermarket parts for this sort
of thing, and the wholesaler is issuing a credit for the original part. A
new OEM crank sensor is on the way and will be installed next week.
In other news, I may have a perfect recipient car for a V8 transplant. OR
for that matter, a perfect recipient car for a 20V Turbo transplant,
depending. The car is a 1997 A6 Avant.
The deal is that the car has a dead transmission, and other than that a
decent service history. Timing belt at 190k as well as tires and some other
things. It is owned by my mechanic who has peanuts into the car as it was
abandoned by the owners who had been given the car.
So the operating theory now is IF we could find a suitable V8, then we could
do an engine and transmission swap and have an A6 Avant that has all the
nice things of the C4 cars with the 60 or so more horsepower that they need.
OR, John thinks that maybe a 20Valve 5 speed could be put in with MUCH more
power, IF a suitable donor car could be located.
I haven't really asked how much for the car as is, but that is an option as
my mechanic is not in the parting out business. So if we (meaning mostly
"I") don't do something with this car, it could be had for pretty cheap to
someone who wanted to something neat with it.
Green and, (I think) beige-whatever-that-light-colored interior was in 1997.
And of course, you could do a black interior swap on this car, too.
Just thought I'd throw that out since the V8 list is soooo quiet this
morning.
