Yes, I am. In fact, I have pics of a V4 A4 trans on a disc somewhere, from a
car I did an engine in at work. The bellhousings being the same is also why
people have used 200 20V transmissions in v8's 5-speed conversions.

You sure about this Tony? I would just as soon not deal with the entire
transmission/driveshaft deal if I can get away with it. I am a bit
concerned about how robust the later transmission is, but that might not be
an issue after all, and it would be easier and cheaper to replace it (I
think) than to deal with the earlier ZF Quattro transmission.

To answer both questions, Audi put a V8 in the C4 chassis, so fitting it in
there is not a problem.

The bellhousing's are the same for all Audi engines but the 4-cylinders.
However, just about every trans since 92 has both patterns, and the 90's
swapped to dual patterns in 88.

I don't' think the difference in size between the V6 and V8 will pose
problems because there is quite a lot of room between the front of the V6
and the radiator fans as the engine sits now.

That is exactly what I was thinking also. I think it sounds like a great
project, and a perfect daily driver. As was mentioned, you can simply go out

and buy a 20V Turbo, but a V8 in there would be very unique, and very
practical for a dd, espeically with the autobox.
