Hey Karl, my Pearl 93 has a loud fuel pump also....but it's getting 20 
+mpg......OSX should help your fuel issue/maybe not.  Full tune-up 
(check plugs/wires)....then.....whatever.   I've never had the joy of  
removing a pump in a V8, but in my old saab, I took a BIG wad of  
epoxy putty/greased everything I didn't want to stick/ and formed my  
own wrench.....placed a 1x steel bar into putty while soft/then  
drilled and screwed bar to "socket"....worked great
