Canadian cars do not have a US DOT sticker on the door jam.

The Canadian cars have a DOT sticker on the door pillar already.  There are some small things that have to be changed with vehicles coming up from the states . Things like Day lite running lights have to be working . I don't know all the laws on this but I know it isn't that hard anymore. ( both ways ) Back in the late 80's Free trade agreement between Canada and the USA established guild lines. I believe they started by charging a duty for cars built and assbly. Canada/US/Mexico that were 15 years or younger, the next year it was 14ys and younger and so on.

NAFTA cars are vehicles that have been manufactured or have been assembled in Canada/US/Mexico with a minimum of 55% content. A "NAFTA" vehicle is exempt of ANY tariffs, duties or taxes when sold in Canada/US/Mexico. A "NAFTA" vehicle can be easily determined by looking at the VIN number. If the first character of the VIN is a NUMBER then it is DUTY FREE. If the first character is a letter, the vehicle is subject to a 6.1% Import Duty.
