[V8] Tire scrubs and ABS-OFF light comes on

My car tires are scrubbing juddering on tight slow speed turns, and  
the ABS-OFF light is coming on.
It's worse from a cold start in the morning.
I normally just press the ABS switch a couple of times to turn the  
light off, but the tire scrubbing is annoying.
A while back I tried cleaning the ABS sensors in the wheels and it  
made a marginal improvement,
but I don't really want to replace all 4 expensive sensors just to  
find out, that wasn't the problem.
Is there any way to check the sensors?
