[V8] 5spd tranny code...

You can use any transmission that is from a Quattro with a 4.11:1 final
drive. That includes the 4000Q, 5000Q (nonturbo), 200 20V, and the V8. This
also includes some later transmissions like the 01E 5-speed from the
UrS4/S6. And, the B5S4 6-speed might work as well.

The key is to get a trans with decent gearing to match the car and engine.
The original V8 trans has pretty good gearing, and an external cooler. Next
is the 200 20V, which is very similar but without the cooler. The 4000Q has
horible gearing to go with the power of the V8, but the 5000Q might be a
good bet. FYI, all the 5000 and 200 Quattro 10 valve turbo cars have a
3.89:1 final drive for the front differential, chich won't match up very
well with your 4.11 rear end in the V8. However, you can also swap in the
diffferential from a 3.89 ezuiped car. But, unless it's a 200, you loose the
torsen, and go to an open diff with vacuum operated locking.
